ANOMIE - band history

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was A N O M I E......

ANOMIE at Glastonbury Festival 2000 In 1991 StuArt Barton (right in the picture) created the first ANOMIE set on his trusty fourtrack. To develop it further and play it live he recruited the immensely talented Colin "Goatoid" Wilson (left) on guitars and synths, and Jon Storm on bass. The first gig was at the Rock Garden in London's West End, and was such a success that a whole series of concerts followed. Richard Wright soon joined on drums (previously the drums had been played by Akira, a small but perfectly-formed black box from Japan). They continued experimenting with video and other visual materials to enhance the ANOMIE soundscape, and ANOMIE began to take shape as the awesome experience it is today.

Since 1997, ANOMIE consists of the enigmatic duo, StuArt and Colin. They found that they didn't need anyone else most of the time, sharing the bass-playing duties between them when bass is required, though Jon Storm still pops up now and then to do a guest appearance when his health permits. They have played all over the UK and in Europe, and been given significant FM airtime in Japan & US.

In 2002 they were at the Glastonbury Festival performing and running Doc Barnetts Amazing Audio-Solar-Cyclonator! PA for the Mandala Stage in the Green Futures Field. Performed four times, two sets of 'A Trip into the Unknown' with the sensational Dr. M of The Pyramids of SNAFU on bass for their live work. They also performed their 'ANOMIEs Ambient Greeting' Saturday & Sunday mornings to start the days events. Sales of 'ATitU' were thick and fast from the stage which is always gratifying. Also on were the aforementioned Pyramids of SNAFU - that's Goatoid, Dr M, Doc Barnett and Terry Ollis - formerly of Hawkwind and now also of Spaceritual.net, plus loads of others bands and performers : Tasmania, Nik Turner & Trev Thoms, Janey Dare, The Spacegoats and loads of others.

Prior to that was the success of the Kingston Green Fair 2002, putting on loads of bands - The Pyramids of SNAFU, Janey Dare, Tony Voller, The Spacegoats, New Age Radio and Sultan Izfahim. All powered by Doc Barnetts Amazing Audio-Solar-Cyclonator! That's a custom built PA system running off 12volts, charged from 4 solar panels and a tandem bike generator system. Pedal Power For Free Energy!! The audience pedals to provide power and hence music!!! Cool!!

2003 again saw ANOMIE at The Glastonbury festival where they previewed the lie version of 'An Experiment into Mind Expansion'. The enigmatic duo performed two sets of AEiMX blissing everyone out after their first headonistic Friday night. They also performed an experimental electronica set on the Thursday. AEiMX sold out from the stage and an encore was demanded and duely provided by the guys fireing up 'Free Energy'.
